Are heated recliners worth $700?

Ah yes, the good old heated recliner debate. If they had magazines dedicated to recliners, then the heated recliner question would pop up at least twice every week.

So what do you say Joan, are there any good?

If you’re looking for a sound bite answer to the question, then all I have to say is that a heated recliner is as good as the options and extra features that come with it.

After all, if you look at it objectively, the heated recliner is just a good old recliner that has a leather sheath that heats up. This is an idea that has been borrowed from luxury automobiles.

I think it was the first Porsche Boxster that had this option on it. Of course, in a car that doesn’t have a roof, something of this sort is a necessity. It even had air vents under the neck rest. We don’t see La-Z-Boy offering those up as an option do you?

Heated Recliner and Massager

If it isn’t a massager, it is a waste of money

After all, pretty much every home nowadays has heating turned on by default. Unless you plan on putting these recliner chairs outdoors for the winter, there is absolutely no reason to get the heated version.

By the way, you’re still going to have to need to plug it in when you put them outside. In fact, the only scenario in which a plane heated recliner makes sense is as a bit of an attachment to RV.

The thing that sets apart heated recliners is the fact that many of them have a massager system built in. These massage recliner chairs are extremely efficient when it comes to massaging your entire body.

They also make a lot of sense for people who live in apartments because you are always going to be dealing with constrained space issues. Therefore, getting one of these instead of a dedicated back, hands and feet massager makes a lot of sense.

Since you can also plop one of these in front of the TV, the convenience of a massage while watching the evening news or your favorite soap is pretty much unparalleled.

Other features that might interest you

Some of the other features that we will interest you is the fact that pretty much every heated recliner with a massager is usually loaded with electronics.

In addition to that, some heated recliners like the Berkline series also makes for an exceedingly comfortable device. For example, many a heated recliner has a motorised headrest! How cool is that?

Leather Heated Recliners

Heated massages plus recliners makes for a good combination

Gone are the days when you would only be tired working in a job that required manual labour. In this age of unpaid overtime, spending in excess of 10 hours a day sitting at a desk is not unheard of.

This puts undue strain on your back and neck which is something that is talked about quite a lot. The part that doesn’t get talked about is how problematic it is for your legs as well as your calves.

Not only the sitting on the computer for a long time restrict blood flow to your legs, it also is the number-one leading cause of cramps. That is the reason why waitresses report less ankle fatigue than the average cubicle worker.

Safety concerns and product recalls

If you are someone who knows their recliner chairs, you will be familiar with the summer of 2007 when more than 2000 units of heated massage recliners made by Berkline were recalled.

The problem with these devices was that the control device built into the base of the system that would adjust the massage settings could overheat in certain situations.

Just think of it like a blown fuse!

One would normally expect that something like this would happen because the heated recliners would heat up at the heating filament or something of that sort but recliners of the sort has been available in Japan since the late 1980s.

There haven’t been any incidents so far, and even the Berkline recall was initiated by the company itself.
